Written by I have been using PC for years and have been very satisfied. Yet, about a month ago I thought it was time to add a Mac into my computer’s collection. It was a little bit overwhelming to start my brand new Mac from scratch. The most relevant question came into my mind: “Will I be able to run all of my favorite softwares?”
The answer is definitely YES. In fact, there are some other softwares and applications available absolutely for free or less than € 20,00. These are the most essential Mac applications that a Mac newbie needs to start from scratch.
Google Chrome
This browser has become my favorite and is available on Mac as well. It allows you to use other Google product with one click.
Firefox
Or do you prefer Firefox? This is also available on Mac with all it’s plugins. Safari is included so, don’t forget to add it on your dock.
Adobe Reader
Preview is included but if you prefer Adobe software to view all your PDF’s, you can download Adobe Reader for free.
Dropbox
An excellent apps that allows you to sync all files on both PC and Mac. Just log into your account and those same files will be transferred to your new computer.
Cocktail
An award winning general purpose utility for Mac OS X. It is a smooth and powerful application with a variety of practical features that simplifies the use of advanced UNIX functions.
Skype
To keep in touch with all of your relatives, friends, colleagues or clients, just download Skype for free. For a few Euro’s more you could purchase some of Top Skype features, such as Online Number and SMS.
NeoOffice
A full-featured set of office applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs for Mac OS X.
Evernote
Another great apps. It allows you to clip webpages, take notes, make snapshots with the iSight camera, clip screenshots, and create to-do lists.
FileZilla
A fast and reliable cross-platform FTP, FTPS and SFTP client with lots of useful features and an intuitive graphical user interface.
GIMP
A free apps that allows you to edit and retouch photos and images. It works on many operating systems, in many languages. Numerous digital photo imperfections can be easily compensated for using GIMP.
